First Visit

What do I need to bring on my first visit?

We will need to make a copy of your driver’s license and insurance cards. Please bring the referral from the doctor as well as any other information regarding your condition (MRI reports, operation reports).

What do I need to wear to my therapy session?

Wear something comfortable. Most sessions will include exercise. Your therapist needs to be able to see the area they are treating.

What can I expect to happen at a typical physical therapy visit?

On the first visit your therapist will examine you. This will include a history, assessment of functional limitations, objective measurements (e.g. range of motion, strength, tenderness, swelling, balance), special tests (e.g. ligament stability in knee, gait abnormalities), and setting specific, attainable goals. After the examination, your therapist will work with you to achieve these goals. Treatment may include joint manipulation/mobilization, myofascial release, soft tissue massage, therapeutic exercises, traction, education, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, moist heat/ice.
